Tobago family folder · catalogue and editorial notes
Catalogue and short editorial notes for a single family folder containing letters, two ledger fragments, and a long inventory marginalia sequence.

The folder was already organised in a way that made sense to the family who kept it. My job was to make it legible to the next person who would open it, without rearranging what the family had clearly arranged on purpose.
There were three people named only in marginalia in the inventory, never in the main body. The catalogue describes them as that — named in marginalia, with the entry context — and does not silently promote them into anything more certain than that.
The folder is now lodged with the family, with the catalogue as the front document. A copy of the catalogue is held by the parish office in case the folder is ever donated.
